Youth Programs
DSC offers four Youth Programs:
- High School Competitive - The competitive team meets four days per week and is composed of girls and boys in grades 8-12. We train to compete in both water and land races, including the Southwest Regional Championships. This team is open to all high school age athletes with one or more seasons of rowing experience, and exceptional eighth graders.
- High School Recreational - Our rec program is designed for high schoolers who are new to rowing (novices) and experienced rowers who want to enjoy the water without the pressure of training for competition.
- Middle School Recreational - We offer a recreational rowing program for students of all experience levels in grades 6-8. Our middle school program focuses on teaching the basics of the rowing stroke and fostering a positive team environment where all athletes are included.
- Erg Ed® - A classroom-based indoor rowing education program started by the Pocock Foundation. Erg Ed® runs in eleven public school districts across the country and serves more than 20,000 students a year.

Are you ready to have an amazing experience this summer?
Start with a FREE Sample Sculling Session
These free one-day sessions are designed to provide a no-pressure introduction to sculling for young people who have never tried our sport before.
Learn the basics of the stroke on the rowing machine and gain familiarity with our equipment before transitioning into a boat. On the water, all participants will have one-on-one attention from coaches and can either stay connected to the dock or venture out on the river, based on their level of comfort.
These lessons are open to all youth in the Central Valley entering 6th-12th grade in the upcoming academic year. We have multiple dates and times available to work with a variety of schedules. Find out more information below and sign up.

Summer Coaching Staff
Head Junior Coach Jane Mcclellan
Head Junior Coach Hannabeth Magnussen: I am from Oakdale, CA and have been part of the DSC family for the past five years! I am currently attending Calvin University in Grand Rapids, MI. I am studying Biochemistry with a Latin minor in hopes of becoming a veterinarian. The highlight of my summer the past four years has been coaching rowing at DSC. I love athletics and being active, but rowing is by far one of my favorite sports because of the awesome community and the emphasis it places on team. Rowing continues to build a mental stamina and strength that I am able to apply to any obstacle I encounter in life. I enjoy coaching because I love watching how much the girls are able to grow as athletes and individuals, all while developing a love for the awesome sport of rowing!
